08. Samantha Wist photoSamantha Wist who currently lives in Holbrook with her husband, her daughter Madison and dog Daisy is a lifelong resident of the 8th Legislative District and a hero in every sense of the word. She was one of the reasons why Legislator Piccirillo sponsored this legislation to thank heroes like her for all of the selfless work she has done throughout the pandemic.

Samantha is a graduate of Connetquot high school in 2005, and since then she has been dedicated to helping others.  She currently works for Northwell Health at South Shore University Hospital where she is a RN.

During the peak of the Covid 19 pandemic, Samantha was often in ground zero in the hospital- the ICU unit where she worked tirelessly to help others. She often worked long shifts, overnights and holidays when the hospital was being overrun by patients. She stepped up leaving her daughter and husband at home working 12+ hour shifts learning quickly how to save lives. She stood by her patients when they were alone, isolated and petrified. She stayed with them to cry, pray and talk about her daughter to divert anxiety.  She ensued her patients family’s had the opportunity to FaceTime their loved ones so they could say goodbye during end of life situations.   Samantha put her health on the line with long hours, and limited PPE.  All the while working towards her BSN. Samantha officially graduated with her BSN last month and continues to serve our community as a Healthcare Hero. Samantha was also just recently honored at a New York Rangers game for being an essential health care worker during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Thank you Samantha for going above and beyond for your friends, family and community. Thank you for being a Healthcare hero.
