Dr. Christopher Brennan | Legislator Steven J. Flotteron’s Honoree
Dr. Christopher Brennan for 2021 Suffolk County Healthcare Hero.
The West Islip native is a Hospitalist in the Emergency Department at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. As a kid he worked as a lifeguard at Fire Island, following in the footsteps of his parents and siblings.
Having been well known in the community and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic he wanted to help families and friends as much as possible. He received a call from my good friend, Anthony Musumeci, who asked him to check in on someone he knew. That call created a life- long lasting relationship with the family. He was able to bring the family to the bedside with their father via WhattsApp and video conference calling. This was the best prescription for getting better for any family or patient needs. He couldn't imagine being away from and not able to touch loved ones for months at a time. He never takes life for granted, he treats people the way he wants to be treated and respects all his colleagues in healthcare. He is grateful for the nurses, assistants, PAs/NPs that work as a team to improve patient outcomes.
Ultimately while helping patients and their families make it through the COVID-19 pandemic both he and his wife (also a doctor at Good Samaritan) came down with COVID and spent over a week in the hospital. They soon got better and were back on the wards working with their teams to help save lives and help families make it through this difficult time.
