Monica R. Martinez, from a young age, has had a passion for helping others. She attended Binghamton University where she majored in Biology and History. As a young student, Monica served the Binghamton community by volunteering her weekends at the local zoo and day care centers. Having been taught the value of education by her family, she knew she wanted to dedicate her time educating others. In 1999, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Binghamton University and continued on to New York University where she attained a Masters degree in Secondary Education concentrating in Social Studies.
In July of 2000 Monica was offered a position as a Social Studies teacher at Brentwood High School, her alma mater. After serving the Brentwood school district in the capacity of a teacher for ten years, she recognized an inner desire to effectuate further change. In 2006, she enrolled at Stony Brook University where she obtained her administrative degree. In 2010, she was appointed to the position as Assistant Principal of a local middle school in Brentwood where she has dedicated both her time and her love to students, staff members and families over the past four years.
While her presence at the middle school will undoubtedly be missed, she is extremely passionate and eager to represent the 9th District as the newly elected Legislator. Legislator Monica R. Martinez possesses a deep rooted passion for underserved communities. Having been raised in Brentwood herself, she truly understands the adversities and day-to-day challenges residents face. Monica’s humble beginnings have equipped her to not only relate to the needs of LD9, but it has inspired her to make a difference.
