Sag Harbor, NY – On January 27, 2017 Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman’s Office and Suffolk County Legislator Bridget  Fleming will meet with local residents at noon  at  the  Westhampton  Beach  Free  Library,  7  Library  Avenue  in  Westhampton Beach, to discuss scams targeting seniors and how seniors can protect themselves.

“The last thing families need is to be scammed out of their hard-earned money,” said Attorney General Schneiderman. “It is shameful that scam artists target people with bogus threats and scare tactics, but following a few basic tips can help you fight back and stay safe.”

“I would like to thank Attorney General Schneiderman’s Office for providing this informative and important seminar to the seniors of Westhampton Beach.” stated Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming. “My office will continue to look for ways to inform the public of current phone and computer scams so they can have the tools to avoid becoming victims of these fraudulent tactics.”

The Attorney General’s Office will highlight common telephone and internet scams and offer tips to avoid becoming a victim. Attorney General Schneiderman reminds New Yorkers that in addition to being vigilant, they should also report instances of fraud to his office.

Consumers are encouraged to file complaints by visiting the Office’s website, www.ag.ny.gov, or calling 1-800-771-7755.
