Legislator Steven Flotteron along with Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Mike Fauk, Aide to New York State Assembly Mike LiPetri honored West Islip resident and Veteran Phil Stone on his milestone 100th Birthday. Mr. Stone was celebrated by his church family on Sunday, March 31st at Churches of Christ as an American hero, devoted family man, and an inspiration of both faith and character.
Mr. Stone and his wife, son and daughter have been lifelong members of the Churches of Christ. Mr. Stone entered the U.S. Armed Services and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was deployed in the European theater and while flying a bomber over Italy, his aircraft encountered equipment failure. He lost consciousness and also suffered frostbite to his right hand which required amputation of several fingers. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for his injuries, and he returned from WWII to his family.
