Presiding Officer Gregory Honors 15th Legislative District's "Woman of Distinction"

Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory presents a proclamation to Sharon Fattoruso, the 15th Legislative

Wyandanch, NY – Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory recently stopped by a meeting of the Copiague Chamber of Commerce to congratulate and present a proclamation to his choice for the 15th Legislative District’s 2019 “Woman of Distinction,” Sharon Fattoruso.

In celebration of Women’s History Month each March, the Legislature’s Woman of Distinction award recognizes women who demonstrate leadership, involvement and commitment to their community. Each of Suffolk County’s 18 legislators are asked to name one woman from his/her district as a “Woman of Distinction” and the Suffolk County Women’s Advisory Commission then chose a county-wide winner from the 18 honorees. The top honor this year went to Deer Park resident Gina Lieneck who has been rallying for stronger boating safety laws after her daughter died in a boating accident in 2005 near Fire Island.

Sharon Fattoruso has dedicated her life to improving the quality of life of the entire Copiague community. A longtime resident of the hamlet of Copiague, she is a staunch community advocate and an active member of several community organizations, serving as the president of the Copiague Chamber of Commerce and president/co-founder of the Copiague Community Cares Coalition.

“Suffolk County is proud to acknowledge all of the extraordinary women who contribute to our community,” said Presiding Officer Gregory. “Sharon is well known throughout Copiague and is regarded as a reliable and dedicated resident. Her tireless volunteerism is a valuable asset to the 15th district.”
