PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Deputy Presiding Officer Rob Calarco has released the following statement regarding the Replacement of County Road 16-Horseblock Road Bridge.
“Earlier this week, Suffolk County Department of Public Works began a reconstruction project on Horseblock Road in Medford. The bridge that runs over the train tracks near Long Island Avenue is in need of repair and is being substantially reconstructed.
For the next year, the bridge will be closed as crews work to make the necessary repairs. During that time, there will be detours using the Long Island Expressway Service Roads and Long Island Avenue. The first few days of the closure have had some real difficulty as drivers adjust to the new traffic pattern. DPW is working on getting additional signage up that will better control the flow of traffic through the detour and ensure that trucks will not be on Long Island Avenue.
Although these first couple of days have been difficult for residents in the area, please know that this project is incredibly important to safety of that bridge. I appreciate your patience while we sort out the problems but please do not hesitate to contact my office at 631-854-1400 with your questions or concerns.”
