SHOREHAM, NY – On Thursday, July 4th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined Town of Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner and the Village of Shoreham at its annual Independence Day celebration. The holiday began with a parade through the village and included festivities that lasted throughout the day.
In addition to traditional parade festivities, Legislator Anker and the Village of Shoreham Mayor Brian Vail recognized posthumously three former Shoreham Residents: Claude Pallister, the first mayor of Shoreham Village; William Thompson, the first president of the Shoreham Country Club and the 3rd Village mayor; and Florence Finn, the first female president of Shoreham Country Club in 1934, founding President of the Shoreham Garden Club, and founder of the local chapter of League of Women Voters.
“The 4th of July is a time to celebrate our country’s independence, and to thank the men and women in our military that fight every day to protect our freedom,” said Legislator Anker. “Thank you to the Village of Shoreham for hosting this wonderful celebration each year.”
