Greenlawn, NY – On Saturday, July 27th teens and spectators from across Huntington came together once again for the Annual Coral Park Co-Ed Basketball Tournament. The event, which began six years ago and is sponsored by Suffolk County Legislator William R. Spencer and Town Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci, has become a local tradition at a cherished neighborhood park. Students from ages 12 to 18 competed in full court games throughout the day, and older athletes, who participated in past years, competed in the event’s alumni game.
“This annual tournament was the vision of a number of community minded people who are dedicated to bringing folks together in our parks and to providing opportunities for our youth,” stated Legislator William Spencer. “I hope everyone had an enjoyable time and will join us again next year!”
Special thanks go out to the community organizers of the event: Vernon Lowe, Steve Bervine, and Martine McDonald; SCPD Officers: Claudia Delgado, Ilyssa Doughty, and Rios Hoyt and the 2nd Precinct Police Explorers who were on hand ensuring public safety; and event sponsors: Spuntino’s Pizza, Suffolk County PAL, Advanced Auto Care, First Class Bagel Café, PICO Restaurant, and All Weather Tires. A new addition to this year’s fun included free haircuts from “A Cut Above the Rest” Mobile Barbershop.
"I would like to thank everyone for joining us at Coral Park, and I’m glad to be here for our community’s 6th year in a row of coming together and supporting our town’s youth. Thank you to Legislator William Spencer and Legislator Susan Berland for continuing this tradition. We hope that all of our kids will leave this event having grown in skill, character, and experience."
