Assemblyman Mike LiPetri
and I were honored to recognize lifetime West Islip resident Estelle Kaznowski
on her 100th birthday. She is better known as Stel by her friends
and family. Stel has had a long life of dedication to both her country and
career. In 1937, Stel admirably served her country during World War II and her
bravery and dedication continued throughout her chosen career as a nurse. In
1940, she was the first nurse hired at Southside Hospital working in Labor
& Delivery and one of the first nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital’s
Pediatric Unit in 1959 until retiring in 1981.
