Suffolk County, NY – Suffolk County Legislator William Spencer was excited to join transportation advocate Paul Pressman and fellow Legislators on a special tour of the County bus system on Wednesday, August 23rd. The event, which was coordinated by Mr. Pressman in conjunction with the ADAPT/SILO “Try My Ride” initiative, gave lawmakers the opportunity to see firsthand the challenges faced by the 22,000 daily riders.
The trip began on the S40 line in Patchogue and moved west to Babylon, where riders transferred to the S29 bus destined for the Walt Whitman Mall. At the Walt Whitman Mall, they transferred to the S54 bus toward Hauppauge. Also joining Paul on the tour were Legislators Hahn, Calarco, and McCaffrey, as well as Legislative Aides from the offices of Legislators Barraga and Martinez.
“I stand in solidarity with Paul and the families and workers who rely on public transportation and thank Paul for coordinating this important outing to give Legislators greater perspective on this issue.” stated Legislator Spencer. “Together we will continue to advocate for the additional resources needed to maintain and expand the system which is a lifeline for so many.”
“I hope that this tour was informative and gave clearer understanding of the workings of the bus system, transfers, and the obstacles that riders face on a daily basis; especially those with disabilities and senior citizens.” said Paul Pressman. “Hopefully, this event will inspire a meaningful dialogue to bring equitable funding for transportation, specifically buses to our county.”
