Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly, Chair of the Legislature’s Public Safety Committee recently honored Suffolk County’s Probation Officer of the Year Joe Martorell with a County Proclamation at the committee’s August 29 meeting. Joining Legislator Donnelly in recognizing him were Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory, Department of Probation Director Andrea Neubauer and Officer Martorell’s former partner of 15 years, current SCPOA Unit President Matthew Porter.
Officer Martorell is a dedicated 18-year veteran of the Suffolk County Probation Department. In 2003, he was assigned to Suffolk County’s Gang Unit and quickly become a respected expert. Throughout his career, Officer Martorell has been an intricate part of countless dangerous high profile investigations requiring a high level of expertise and professionalism and has been instrumental in the capture and arrest of countless violent fugitives.
“Officer Martorell has put his life on the line to make Suffolk County a safer place to live and work countless times with an inspiring dedication and commitment that is beyond exemplary,” said Legislator Donnelly. “It is a privilege to honor him for this well-deserved recognition.”
