Shirley, NY, September 13, 2019 –
The William Floyd School District recently joined with Assemblyman Fred Thiele,
Suffolk County Legislator Rudy Sunderman and Town of Brookhaven Highway
Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro to announce that a $250,000 grant secured
through the State and Municipal Facilities Program will be used to construct
ADA-compliant sidewalks around William Floyd Elementary School on Lexington,
Fleet and Clyde roads. The work, weather pending, is scheduled to begin later
this fall, and will be completed by the Brookhaven Town Highway Department.
“I was happy to work with town and county officials to
provide $250,000 of state funding for the installation of sidewalks surrounding
William Floyd and John S. Hobart elementary schools,” said Assemblyman Thiele.
“This is an excellent community improvement project that will greatly benefit
neighborhood residents and provide safety for our school children.”
Legislator Sunderman added, “This project is about all
levels of government coming together to get a job done for the benefit of the
community and the safety of our children. Thank you to Assemblyman Thiele,
Highway Superintendent Losquadro, and the William Floyd School District for all
coming together for this important project.”
“I’d like to thank Suffolk County Legislator Rudy Sunderman
for advocating for this important project and New York State Assemblyman Fred
Thiele, who secured funding for sidewalks to be constructed on the roadways
surrounding the William Floyd Elementary School, making the area safer for the
many pedestrians, residents, students and staff of the William Floyd School
District who travel these roadways on a daily basis,” said Highway
Superintendent Losquadro.
“This is a true
collaboration of government working together for the betterment of our
community,” said Robert Vecchio, President, William Floyd Board of Education.
“With nearly 9,000 students, William Floyd is one of the largest school
districts in Suffolk County. The investment to construct new sidewalks will be
beneficial to our students, their families and all pedestrians within the
community. I thank Assemblyman Thiele, Legislator Sunderman and Highway
Superintendent Losquadro for working together to bring this to fruition. The
investment in our community is appreciated.”
William Floyd School District Superintendent of Schools
Kevin M. Coster added, “On behalf of the William Floyd School District, I am
grateful to our elected officials for working together to bring this project
together. New sidewalks will add to the aesthetics of our grounds, but more
importantly, will enhance the safety of our students and their families for
years to come.”
