The Suffolk County Legislature’s Veterans & Consumer Affairs Committee, chaired by Legislator Susan A. Berland was visited by representatives from Phoenix Houses of New York and Long Island, a nonprofit drug and alcohol rehabilitation organization that now provides special treatment programs for military personnel and veterans at their Edward D. Miller Center in Lake Ronkonkoma. Last spring, a building dedicated to the Center’s treatment of military personnel and veterans was inaugurated and now serves as a medical detoxification and special treatment unit.
“Caring for Suffolk County’s military personnel and veterans in the midst of the opioid epidemic is of paramount importance,” said Legislator Susan A. Berland, Chairwoman of the Veterans & Consumer Affairs Committee. “The treatment options available to them at the Edward D. Miller Center are vital to our community of heroes and I thank Ann Marie and Danielle for their presentation before the committee, which brought to light the resources that are available to combat this ongoing crisis.”
