Eagle Scouts Ben and Jack

(Smithtown, NY)…Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta attended the Troop 8’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Benjamin Harrison Strait and Jack Michael Puttre who live in East Northport.

Ben earned 44 merit badges. For his Eagle Scout Project, he designed and built eyeglass collection boxes for distribution at municipal buildings throughout the town. The eyeglasses collected are for the Lion’s Club “Recycle for Sight Program.” Ben dedicated this project in memory of his late father who was a past-president of the Northport-Centerport Lions Club.

Jack custom designed and built a beehive-shelving unit for the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown for his Eagle Scout Project. The unit consists of interlocking hexagons to mimic a bee hive and includes custom made pillows to fit into the openings that depict the various stages of bee development, He also earned 46 merit badges.

Legislator Trotta praised the boys for their community service and noted that his sister-in-law’s father, John Wilson, had just passed and related his community service of going door to door to collect money for Commack’s first ambulance. He was a founding member of the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a veteran of the Korean War “These young men have already demonstrated their commitment to their community and are role models for the younger scouts and young men throughout Suffolk County,” said Legislator Trotta.
