West Babylon, NY, May 25th, 2020: On Memorial Day, Legislator McCaffrey joined the West Babylon Fire Department and the Village of Lindenhurst in modified Memorial Day ceremonies.
A day typically full of parades, ceremonies, and fundraiser breakfasts that makes Legislator McCaffrey seem to be in multiple laces at once, Memorial Day 2020 was nothing of the sort.
The day began at the Headquarters of the West Babylon Fire Department on Arnold Avenue, where the Legislator joined Chief of Department Robert Sullo, Second Assistant Chief Steve Kamalic, Third Assistant Chief William Allen, and Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners William Klein. Unfortunately the ceremony did not follow a parade as usual, nor did it include the entire membership of the Department- however the laying of the wreaths tradition still continued. Legislator McCaffrey was honored to assist Chief Sullo in laying the wreath for fallen firefighter Michael Greene.
Legislator McCaffrey then headed to a scaled down Memorial Day Service at Lindenhurst Village Hall. "Although the services were different," the Legislator said, "the recognition and appreciation of those who made the ultimate sacrifice remains the same." Special recognition was given to Joe Randazzo of Lindenhurst, a World War II Veteran, who like Legislator McCaffrey father, served in the Battle of the Bulge.
Legislator McCaffrey represents Suffolk County’s 14th Legislative District which encompasses the Village of Lindenhurst, Babylon Village, the hamlets of West Babylon and North Lindenhurst, portions of Copiague, North Babylon and Babylon’s barrier beach communities.
