West Babylon, NY, May 28th, 2020: On Thursday, May 28th, Legislator McCaffrey joined the West Babylon Senior High School Class of 2020 for a graduation parade.
Far from a traditional graduation ceremony, the West Babylon School District chose to honor its graduating class in a truly unique fashion- with a parade of seniors through the school’s campus.
The class of over 300 students lined up in their family cars to the rear of the nearby Our Lady of Grace church, and drove to the school under an escort by the Suffolk County Police Department and West Babylon Fire Department. They entered through the school’s rear entrance, where they drove beneath a balloon arch and American flag, then proceeded to drive by lines of teachers and administrators from across the district, who took up both sides of the route. At the front of the school, where the parade concluded, Legislator McCaffrey stood with the school administrators and Board of Education to cheer on the graduates.
As Chairman of the Legislature’s Education and Labor Committee, as well as representative of a district with multiple larger school districts, Legislator McCaffrey remains adamant that Governor Cuomo should reconsider his ban on traditional graduations and allow our school districts to plan and host a safe ceremony.
Legislator McCaffrey represents Suffolk County’s 14th Legislative District which encompasses the Village of Lindenhurst, Babylon Village, the hamlets of West Babylon and North Lindenhurst, portions of Copiague, North Babylon and Babylon’s barrier beach communities.
