As Summer Temperatures Spike, SCWA Urges Customers Not to Sweat Having Adequate Water Supply by Following These Tips

As you know may already know, on Long Island, our aquifer is the only source of clean and safe drinking water. When people take this resource for granted, it hurts all of us. That is why the Suffolk County Water Authority is encouraging all of its 1.2 million customers to be mindful of their water use this summer, and to adjust their watering practices when possible to ensure there is an ample supply of water for everyone.

Watering your lawn every day can be wasteful and unnecessary. Consider moving to an odd/even day watering schedule that saves water, saves money, and helps your lawn by encouraging deep root growth.
SCWA Water Conservation Email - 50 Percent Image

Did you know that as much as 50% of outdoor water use ends up going to waste? Consider using a smart controller for your irrigation system that measures local weather patterns and uses only the precise amount of water you need to keep your grass green.

Lawn watering season is here, but when we all water at once, it means lower pressure for everyone, including firefighters in the event of an emergency. Consider adjusting your irrigation timer so that it does not water between 3:00 and 7:00 am.

When we all water our lawns at once, it puts a stress on our water infrastructure. New wells and pumps must be built just to satisfy this peak demand period, which equates to millions of dollars in avoidable costs to SCWA customers. Consider adjusting your irrigation timer so that it does not water between 3:00 and 7:00 am.
