BRENTWOOD. N.Y. – On Wednesday, July 15th, Legislator Sam Gonzalez along with Island Harvest distributed packages of food to local senior in need. Volunteers from SCPD PAL were also on site to assist Island Harvest, Legislator Gonzalez and his staff, to sort and distribute food such as fruits, vegetables, canned food and more.
Approximately two hundred seniors received fresh produce and dry goods by socially distancing in line or driving up in front of Legislator Gonzalez’s office in Brentwood. Sergio Colon said, “As president of the Brentwood Senior Citizen Club, I want to thank Legislator Gonzalez for helping our seniors.” Angela Santamaria of Island Harvest stated, “Island Harvest will continue to deliver these food packages to older adults, because it is a federally funded program especially for them, all they will need to do is meet the requirements.”
“Being able to serve the community is an honor and it gives me great pride to able to provide food for our seniors. This community has been the most affected by the pandemic, but I want them to know that I am here for them and I am proudly working for every resident in my district,” said Legislator Gonzalez.
Legislator Gonzalez and Island Harvest will be teaming up again to distribute food to seniors in need on August 14, 2020 from 1p.m to 3p.m. at the Central Islip Civic Center, which is located at 68 Wheeler Road Central Islip.
