Along with my fellow Americans, I watched the tragic events yesterday at the U.S. Capitol unfold with a sense of sadness and outrage. The Founders and Framers of our democracy knew the challenges our nascent union would face, and they gave us a foundation to build a great nation based on laws, not mob rule.
The breach of security must be fully investigated and any individuals who destroyed public property and threatened fellow citizens must be held accountable. There was disregard for law enforcement by the mob; they smashed windows, but couldn’t smash our democracy. I am a proud American who saw our elected representatives go right back to work, certifying the national election of a new President.
Anyone in a position of authority, including elected officials, need to be mindful of their words, and use the best interest of our Country to guide them. Disagreement in policy and procedure will always take place, but we need to adhere to and respect the law, and work together to best serve the people we represent.
Trust in our democratic process and the peaceful transfer of power are among the most sacred principles of our republic, and each and every one of us who loves our country must stand together and defend those principles. God Bless America.
