Lindenhurst, NY: on August fourteenth, Legislator Kevin McCaffrey partnered with the Suffolk County Police Department’s Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Bureau to host an Active Shooter Overview & Basic Survival Strategies Course for District 14 residents.
On August 14th, 2019, Legislator McCaffrey hosted an Active Shooter Awareness Seminar in conjunction with the Suffolk County Police Department and VFW Wade Burns Post 7279. The presenters, Detective Lent and Police Officer Larmour, provided a room full of nearly sixty district residents with situational awareness tips and best practices, so that they may protect themselves and others in the event of an active shooter event and other emergencies.
Lent and Larmour combined for decades of police and security experience, receiving training from numerous agencies across the country. They balanced the uncomfortableness of the topic with encouraging discussion, willing to answer any and every question one could think of. Also on hand was Lindenhurst School District Superintendent Dan Giordano who, along with his security staff, spoke to residents about steps being taken to protect their children in school.
Thanks again to the SCPD, Commander Kelly of VFW Post 7279 and Maureen from 7-Eleven for supplying the refreshments. Any groups interested in learning more can view a virtual version of the seminar at https://www.scpdshield.org/ActiveShooter.aspx, or contact my office 631-854-1100. A smaller version of the course will be held later in the year at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library.
