Legislator Steven J. Flotteron recognized Nicholas Scarmozzino of Troop 95 in West Islip for earning his Eagle Scout. Nicholas demonstrated leadership recently by installing a community bench and coloring table at the West Islip Public Library. The bench was dedicated to the COVID-19 victims and front line workers on October 30 with a blessing by Pastor Ford, West Islip Church of Christ. Nicholas, who lost his grandfather during his Eagle Scout journey, felt sincere compassion for the victims and their families who have faced the pandemic first hand and appreciated the tireless hours of frontline workers who put their health at risk in helping to keep others safe.
Since joining Troop 95 in 2015, Nicholas has earned 79 merit badges, 12 Eagle palms and earned over 300 hours of community service. Thanks to the adult volunteers who mentor the boys who run their troop, the scouts learn citizenship through their actions by actively helping their West Islip community through their service projects, food and personal care drives and beautification projects.
