Lindenhurst, NY: On Monday, February 8th 2021, Legislator McCaffrey and World War II Veteran Joseph Randazzo filmed a promotional piece for the Hometown Heroes of Town of Babylon Campaign.
On Monday morning, Legislator McCaffrey met with longtime friend and Lindenhurst legend Joseph Randazzo to help promote the Hometown Heroes of Town of Babylon Campaign! The two sat down at the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts studio in Lindenhurst, where they filmed a promotional video.
Like Legislator McCaffrey’s father, Joseph served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and took part in some of the most significant battles in history- including the Battle of the Bulge in the grueling winter of 1944. During the interview, Joseph spoke about the sacrifices that he and his brothers in the 75th Innovation Command (75th Infantry Division) made throughout the war, including repelling Nazi Forces not once, not twice, but three times! First at the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes, then in the City of Colmar, France, and then again in Holland.
As if that wasn’t enough, Joseph’s regiment then took part in an offensive across the Rhine River into strongly held German territory, where Joseph was injured by enemy fire and sent to a military hospital in London. He was held there for several months. Joseph and his brothers, many of whom did not return to their families, were undoubtedly part of the “greatest generation.”
