Sag Harbor, NY- In response to President Joe Biden’s signing of the American Rescue Plan, Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming has issued the following statement:
“Local government workers and the services they provide are essential. Without the almost $300 million dollars coming directly to Suffolk County from the American Rescue Plan, essential services like the 10B bus that provides the only mode of public transportation for residents of Springs to go to doctors’ appointments in East Hampton or work in Bridgehampton, would have been cut. The second district would have lost an additional two bus routes, the 10C and S62— not to mention the cuts to para-transit services that would have affected almost 200 riders daily. The signing of the American Rescue Plan restores funding to the county’s Police Revenue Sharing program, which directs funds to the towns of East Hampton, Shelter Island, and Southampton and the five villages in Suffolk County’s Second District with their own police departments—a total of more than $ 2 million dollars. I applaud the leadership of President Biden and the efforts of Senate Majority Leader Schumer to sign this plan and ensure that our local governments receive the support we need to provide these essential services to our constituents.”
