FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“First Annual Earth Day Spring Cleanup in Sayville Sponsored by Legislator Piccirillo was a Huge Success.”

On Saturday April 24th, the Suffolk County Legislator Anthony A. Piccirillo, along with the Sayville Chamber of Commerce, Greater Sayville Civic, the Sayville Junior Civic, and community members came together to cleanup Sayville in honor of Earth Day. More than 60 residents attended the event that kicked off at 10am at the Sayville Chamber House on Montauk Highway in Sayville.  Community members of all ages attended this first annual spring event that helped to clean up litter from our parks, roads, and parking lots in Sayville. “I was pleasantly surprised by how many community members showed up bright and early on Saturday morning ready to cleanup our community,” said the Legislator.  Residents met at the Sayville Chamber House, signed in, then received gloves, garbage bags and garbage pickers. Each team of volunteers also received their designated area in Sayville to clean.

“It was incredibly inspiring to see how many people took the time out of their day on a beautiful Spring Day to help clean up our community” said Legislator Piccirillo.  In all over 50 bags of trash were filled, in just a few hours.  “It is imperative that we keep our community clean for future generations, I am proud to have helped sponsor this cleanup along side the Sayville Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Sayville Civic” stated Legislator Piccirillo.

Last fall the 8th Legislative District partnered with the Sayville Chamber and the Sayville Civic for a fall cleanup, this event was such a success that the organizations decided to partner once again this spring. “I am lucky to represent the 8th Legislative District where we have such strong community organizations that help our community like the Sayville Chamber and the Sayville Civic; I am looking forward to continuing to partner with them for future events” added Legislator Piccirillo.

For those who missed the Community Cleanup in Sayville this past Saturday, the 8th Legislative District is sponsoring a Holbrook Cleanup this Saturday May 1st at 10am, at 1609 Grundy Avenue Holbrook.
