Legislator Steven J.
Flotteron joined Ambassador Girl Scout Carly McCaffrey with her parents, Owen
and LisaMarie, at the site of her Gold Award Project. Carly had three monuments
erected at West Islip Beach, a piece of steel from ground zero, for those who
perished on 9/11 and for first responders experiencing illnesses caused at the
site since the attacks. She dedicated a fourth memorial to her dad, a 9/11
survivor suffering from poisoning as a result of being at ground zero helping
to find survivors.
“It’s all for him,” said
Ms. McCaffrey. “He gave so much to be there for others.”
She is with Troop 1104,
Service Unit #17, earning her Girl Scout Gold Award in her senior year at West
Islip High School. She plans to pursue a career teaching kindergarten.
