COMMACK, NY – Suffolk County Legislator Susan A. Berland (D-Dix Hills) recently attended an Eagle Court of Honor to recognize six outstanding young men from Troop 125 Commack who recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout. At the ceremony, she presented proclamations and 16th Legislative District pins to the newest Eagle Scouts, Michael Chacon, Michael Van Loon, Anthony Citera, Ryan Condell, Luke Maciejewski and David Mastroianni.
Two of the six Eagle Scouts, Michael Chacon and Michael Van Loon, are from the 16th Legislative District. Learn more about their Eagle Projects below:
Michael Chacon hosted a Fish and Wildlife Conservation Day for local fourth graders at the Eatons Neck Coast Guard Station. The students were taught the importance of conservation, learned about local marine wildlife, experienced a rotation of touch tank stations and had a presentation from a local fisherman. The students were then able to fish for the remaining time where every student caught several fish. They were sent home with a brand new fishing rod, a tackle box kit, and a new appreciation for the local environment.
Michael Van Loon constructed six raised garden beds to grow fresh produce for Island Harvest at Farmingdale University to assist the non-profit in increasing their self-grown crop yields.
“As the mother of an Eagle Scout, I know all of the hard work and dedication that goes into achieving the rank of Eagle and just how special this occasion is for these young men and their families,” said Legislator Susan A. Berland. “They should be incredibly proud of all of the work they have done for the betterment of our community and I wish each of them all the best in their future endeavors. Congratulations!”
