Hauppauge, NY: On Thursday, June 17th, The Suffolk County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee was joined by Suffolk County Police Department Chief of Detectives Gerard Gigante in recognition of his upcoming retirement.
Chief Gigante will be retiring later this summer- bringing to a close an esteemed 35 year career in protecting and serving the people of Suffolk County. During his tenure, he served as the Commanding Officer of several posts, including the Third Precinct Crime Section, Seventh Squad, Highway Patrol Bureau, Patrol Special Operations Bureau, and the First Precinct- which covers the 14th Legislative District.
At headquarters, Gigante held the positions of Deputy Chief of Patrol and Chief of Detectives, through which he was at the forefront of the Department’s anti-gang efforts, Firearms Suppression Teams, and the establishment of the Human Trafficking Investigations Unit.
Legislator McCaffrey represents Suffolk County’s 14th Legislative District which encompasses the Village of Lindenhurst, Babylon Village, the hamlets of West Babylon and North Lindenhurst, portions of Copiague, North Babylon and Babylon’s barrier beach communities.
