SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – On Thursday, September 9th, the Suffolk County Legislature unanimously passed Introductory Resolution 1551-2021, sponsored by Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker, which directs the Department of Economic Development and Planning and the Department of Information Technology to develop a website that would provide resources to Suffolk County’s local small businesses. In addition, a printable resource guide to provide information to local small businesses will be available.
After attending a Long Island Regional Planning Council meeting, I was made aware of the need for this website,
said Legislator Anker. Covid has created incredible challenges for small business, and while large corporations have received substantial government support, our small businesses have not been given as many opportunities. I am looking forward to working with our local small business owners and Chamber of Commerce organizations to provide guidance in the creation of this website, including the web address and the website content.
A small business website would provide our local businesses with the vital information that is needed in our towns, now more than ever,
said Holly Bottiglieri, President of the Mount Sinai-Miller Place Chamber Alliance. It would provide a one-stop resource to obtain current and relevant information on where to reach out for help when our businesses need it most.
The website information will include; grant and loan opportunities, potential funding sources, business administration information, small business related rules and regulations, relevant government department contacts, and COVID-19 related guidance information. A printable resource guide in PDF format will complement the website. The website and resource guide will be designed and operational within 180 days of the resolution’s adoption.
