SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker recently joined the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club members at their annual fundraising event, Take a Shot at Cancer. President Ed Walden and Vice-President Joseph Hocker of the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club reported that on Sunday, September 5th, the club raised $30,000.00 through the fundraiser. One hundred percent of the proceeds generated will be donated to local breast cancer coalitions to help combat the disease, which affects many Long Island residents, and support those who been diagnosed and their families.

I want to thank the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club and their members for their hard work in developing and hosting this fundraiser for such a worthy cause, said Legislator Anker. My family has been personally impacted by breast cancer, so it is a cause that is close to my heart. Thank you to Peconic River Sportsman’s Club President Ed Walden and Vice-President Joseph Hocker, Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, Lucia’s Angels, North Fork Breast Health Coalition and everyone who participated and donated to the fundraiser. Together, we can help support our local friends and neighbors who have been battling this disease.

This year’s ‘Take a Shot at Cancer’ fundraiser was one of the best ever, said Joseph Hocker, Vice President of the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club. Raising that amount of money was a real accomplishment. Our club and all of its members take great pride in all of our fundraising events, especially this one which is so dear to our hearts.

The Peconic River Sportsman’s Club is a local club in Manorville that aims to maintain the environmental, ecological, and historical integrity of Long Island’s land, water and facilities, as well as preserve and improve wildlife and freshwater habitats. In addition to the club’s environmental efforts, they also organize several charitable events and fundraisers whose proceeds are presented to local initiatives such as Women's Health Partnership, Autism research, Boots on the Ground and other local charities. The club also provides educational programs to members and the public to promote the safe use of firearms.
