SOUND BEACH, NY –Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker recently attended a meeting of the Sound Beach Civic Association and presented a proclamation to civic member Ernestine Franco to thank for her many contributions to the Sound Beach community. The meeting was held outside at the Veterans Memorial Park on New York Avenue in Sound Beach.

I am honored to recognize Ernestine Franco for the years she has dedicated to improving and uplifting her community through the Sound Beach Civic Association and the Rocky Point School District, said Legislator Anker. As a Civic Member, she has introduced many innovative and successful initiatives, which has allowed the organization to have a continuous positive impact. Even with the uncertainty that the COVID-19 pandemic brought, Ernestine offered invaluable leadership. I thank Ernestine for all that she has done and continues to do to support the community.

Ern, my sister and my best friend, has always been committed to helping those around her, said Sound Beach Civic Association President Bea Ruberto. I can't begin to say all that she does for others. She's the best there is and I'm really lucky to always have her in my corner.

Ernestine Franco has been a member of Sound Beach Civic Association since 1985 and serves as the liaison for the Civic and Rocky Point School District. In 2009, she introduced a scholarship program through the Civic Association that grants fifteen scholarships to high school seniors in Sound Beach. Serving as the Chair of the Scholarship Evaluation Committee, Ernestine developed the scholarship criteria and worked tirelessly to ensure the program’s success. Additionally, Ernestine has suggested various fundraising ideas such as Lasagna Dinner Night and the creation of the Sound Beach Cook Book, which have allowed the Civic Association to continue maintaining the Veterans Memorial Park on New York Avenue and honor the frontline workers of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year. In both good times and uncertainty, Ernestine has consistently rose to any challenge and offered innovative methods of fundraising.
