John Theissen was 17 when he was in the hospital due to a brain tumor. Prior to his surgery, a young girl, who was also in the hospital, befriended him. There was a holiday party, but John was too ill to attend, but the little girl requested a teddy bear for her new friend, John. Four years later, he hosted his first toy drive for kids in the hospital. Thus, the beginning of the John Theissen Foundation, which hosts a toy drive every year to collect toys for underprivileged youngsters and children who are in the hospital.
“I commend Daniel for undertaking this initiative especially when so many children will benefit and get to have a nice holiday, during the pandemic, due to the generosity of residents of the Town of Smithtown,” said Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta.
