It Takes a Village! Northport Village and Friends Celebrate the Grand Opening of Information Booth

Northport Information Booth Ribbon Cutting

Northport, NY – It was a community effort to fund, design, build and coordinate the creation of the Information Booth now located in Northport’s Village Park. Positioned in the southeast section of the park to greet visitors, the booth will provide information regarding a range of topics and events pertaining to the Northport’s downtown and rich history that residents and visitors can take advantage of.

To officially celebrate the Information Booth’s grand opening, those who played a role in making the resource available joined together on Sunday for a ribbon cutting ceremony. “I’m so proud to be a part of the team that brought this wonderful project to fruition.  Local groups like our Northport Chamber of Commerce and Northport Historical Society have so much to offer and this user-friendly booth will serve the public as a place to visit and learn about the many opportunities offered throughout the year,” stated Legislator William R. Spencer.

Henry Tobin, Northport Village Trustee and Deputy Mayor, who helped to organize the gathering stated, "This project has been successful because Northport is blessed with people and businesses who have volunteered their time, effort, professional talents, material, and money in service to our community. We are grateful to Legislator Spencer and Keith Barrett for their efforts that obtained a significant county grant for this project."

“Northport has so many organizations and groups hosting many events, the need for a centralized location for information became clear. It was an absolute pleasure to see our hard work result in a great gathering place to meet and exchange information,” stated Debi Triola owner of Fashions in Flowers and the past president of the Northport Chamber of Commerce.

George Suddell, a registered architect, general contractor and a lifelong Northport resident with a deep affection for the beauty of the Village, donated his services and pulled in other professionals to contribute to the project said, “We made a point to incorporate indigenous architectural details into the design of the booth to capture the history of Northport.”

The information booth received a Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization grant, which was awarded to Northport Village. Log on to Suffolk County's Downtown Revitalization webpage for more information about future grant opportunities.
