Shoreham-Wading River Media Production Club Wins Suffolk County’s Bicycle Safety Video Contest

Legislator Anker presents an all-18 proclamation to Shoreham-Wading River HS Media Club

HAUPPAUGE, NY – At a recent general meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature, Legislator Sarah Anker congratulated the Shoreham-Wading River High School Media Production Club for winning first place in the inaugural 2022 Bicycle Safety Video Contest. The club’s video titled “The Bicycle Safety Song,” was produced by students James Wicks and Nicholas Friedlander, and featured performances by students Chris Vignola and Jack D’Andrea.

Congratulations to the Shoreham-Wading River High School Media Production Club, including James, Nicholas, Chris and Jack, and the club’s faculty advisors Mr. Brendan Gilley and Mr. Vincent Ball, for winning this year’s Bicycle Safety Video Contest, said Legislator Anker. The club created an entertaining and informative video that will help teach students and residents how to practice bicycle safety in Suffolk County. With the upcoming opening of the North Shore Rail Trail, the safety of our county’s youth while utilizing the bike and walking trail, is of the utmost importance. Thank you to all the students who participated in this year’s video and poster contests. I always look forward to seeing all the creativity and talent that comes from our local schools.

Each year, as established by Introductory Resolution 1083-2021, the Suffolk County Legislature hosts the Bicycle Safety Video Contest to help spread awareness and inform students and residents about the importance of bicycle safety in order to reduce reckless bicycling and the potential for serious accidents. Students from across the county were asked to participate by creating a video outlining safe bicycling tips to educate both bicyclists and motorists. One video is selected to be featured in educational materials designed and disseminated by the Suffolk County Police Department.
