On July 8th, Legislator Fleming was honored to present a Proclamation to Capt. Regina Marengo, who was named Woman Veteran of the Year for LD-2 for her extraordinary leadership and service to our country throughout her 25 years in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps.
In an 18 month deployment to Iraq, Capt. Marengo served as Plans Engineer for Marine Expeditionary Forces. In 2010, she commanded Seabees Battalion 26, overseeing the construction of force protection at forward bases, and contingency construction throughout NATO ISAF AOR, in Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and Southern Afghanistan.
Under Capt. Marengo’s command, NMCB 26 was awarded the Rear Admiral John R. Perry Award as the finest Reserve Battalion in the nation, the Army Presidential Unit Citation, Army Valorous Unit Award, and a Meritorious Unit Citation.
Today, she continues to blaze trails as the President of Ensign Engineering, as a proud mom, and as an active member of the VFW in Westhampton Beach. "I am inspired by her remarkable career and grateful for her service protecting our freedoms," remarked Leg. Fleming.
