HICKSVILLE, New York – On Tuesday, August 16th, Kevin McCaffrey, Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature, joined New York State Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt to stand firm against proposed Congestion Pricing that could cost those commuting to New York City up to $34.50 per day for passenger vehicles and $82 for commercial vehicles.
Said Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey: I want to thank Minority Leader Ortt and our Republican Leaders in Albany for fighting to protect us from Governor Hochul and the NYS Senate and Assembly majorities. Once again, Long Islanders will bear the brunt of the financial burden for New York City and New York State. These misguided policies and unfounded taxes are destroying small businesses. We ask Governor Hochul: where is the help for Long Island?
This abusive tax will cost Long Islanders and our local economy millions of dollars, with zero benefit to our communities. I thank Senator Ortt and many of our partners at the State level for standing with Long Island in this fight, in particular Senator Mario R. Mattera, Senator Alexis Weik, Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, Legislator Steve Flotteron, Legislator Leslie Kennedy, Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy Jr., and Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads.
