Last month, Legislator Fleming honored Deborah O’Brien (featured to her right) as this year’s Healthcare Hero for the Second Legislative District. As a Registered Nurse in the Southampton Hospital Emergency Room, Ms. O’Brien helped countless patients and families, and championed efforts to keep members of the Sag Harbor Ambulance safe throughout the pandemic. She continues to be invaluable to the hospital, local ambulance corps, and her community. Ms. O’Brien continues to serve as an EMT-CC with the Sag Harbor Ambulance, while holding down a full time job in the ER, and instructing CPR classes.
Being a local resident, an EMS Volunteer, and an ER nurse gives Ms. O’Brien an insight into all three worlds. While an instrumental member of the Sag Harbor Ambulance, she was also an influential member of her community in the past as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and Sag Harbor Little League Safety Officer. Legislator Fleming noted, “because of Debbie’s dedication and service, she was awarded the 2017 REMSCO Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year and the 2021 Honorable Mention Professional Nurse of Excellence, setting a high bar for the healthcare field. She is truly worthy of the distinction of Healthcare Hero for 2022. Our community is so proud!”
