Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn commemorated the 100,000 lives saved through a partnership of the New York Blood Center and Stony Brook University. Beginning in 2000, Stony Brook University began a campus-wide collaboration with the New York Blood Center that encouraged blood donations from its community of students and staff, faculty, administrators and alum. With an average of 1,500 donations every academic year, Seawolves are believed to have saved the lives of over 100,000 of their neighbors that have been threatened by injury and illness during these past 22 years.
