Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly joined Town of Babylon dignitaries, league officials, parents, neighbors and young sluggers as the Deer Park Little League opened its 2023 baseball season with the annual parade and ceremony on Saturday, April 15.
After stepping off from John F. Kennedy Intermediate School on Lake Avenue, marchers paraded up Deer Park Avenue and turned on to Old Country Road, making their way to Pine Acres Park where they were greeted by Deer Park Little League President Joe Geosits, Baseball Director Chris Walker, Legislator Donnelly, Town of Babylon Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman DuWayne Gregory. Councilman Gregory threw out the first pitch and then Legislator Donnelly, at the invitation of league officials, provided the familiar and spirited “Play ball!” to officially start the season. The event was well-attended by excited players and parents, eager to once again hear the crack of the bat.
“As a diehard fan, I always look forward to the start of baseball season, and I am thrilled to once again see our children having fun on the same fields I played on as a youth in Deer Park,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I thank the directors, volunteers, coaches, parents and the entire community for continuously supporting our players.”
