On April 29, 2023, Legislators Leslie Kennedy and other local officials congratulated New Village Church of Lake Grove, a 200-year-old congregation, for their 60th anniversary in their current location at 3 Wildwood Street, Lake Grove, NY 11755.
The congregation was founded in 1815 when a number of inhabitants of West Middle Island resolved to form a church. In 1817, the group chose Nathaniel Smith and Deacon Wheeler as their faith leaders and began to build a meeting house. While the congregation has overcome hardship, such as their parsonage being destroyed in 1913 and financial difficulties, the church is alive and well today.
“It was a pleasure to witness such a sincere expression of faith and community as well as hear about the colorful history of the church,” said Legislator Leslie Kennedy.
