The Suffolk County Legislature paid tribute to our local veterans last Thursday with their Annual Flag Raising Ceremony in front of the William H. Rogers Legislative Building in Hauppauge. Each year during the week of Veterans Day, the County Flag, signed by the 200+ veterans who attended the annual appreciation breakfast at The Larkfield in May, is raised and flown above the Legislature.
“Thank you to my colleagues and the staff who joined me in participating in this ceremony. This touching tradition gives us the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by our service people who have put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms we share, our way of life, and for everything we stand for,” said Legislator Spencer. “We raise the flag for our Suffolk County Veterans and for their compatriots across the country”.
The ceremony was opened and performed by American Legion Greenlawn Post 1244 Color Guard members, Bob Santo and Ed O’Shea. At the end of the ceremony, the participants and spectators joined together to sing “God Bless America”.
