On Saturday, June 17th, the Islip Town Branch of the NAACP hosted a vibrant Juneteenth celebration filled with music, food, educational information, and community engagement. This event served as a platform to honor youth excellence and commemorate the significance of Juneteenth.
During the event, Legislator Gonzalez had the privilege of recognizing the graduating high school students comprising the NAACP Islip Town Youth Council Executive Board: Ryan Antwi, Chrysnell Destina, Kelly Gaussaint, and Denis Jean Baptiste. Additionally, the council's advisor, Isabelle Mitchell, was also acknowledged for her guidance and support. Each member was presented with a proclamation to honor their achievements and commitment to their community.
Furthermore, Legislator Gonzalez awarded certificates of recognition to the dedicated board members of the NAACP Islip Town Youth Council, underscoring their contributions to the community and their role in inspiring future generations.
In a gesture of support for education and empowerment, Legislator Gonzalez also presented five fortunate students with brand-new computers, providing them with essential tools for their academic and personal growth.
