On June 21st, Legislator Bridget Fleming honored Rebecca Young of Sag Harbor as Suffolk County’s Healthcare Hero for the Second Legislative District.
Young is the Patient Navigator and Help Line Nurse for the Regional Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. She also serves as a member of the Suffolk County Tick Control Advisory Committee. Since 2014, Young has had over 5,527 phone conversations about ticks and tick-borne disease with residents and visitors. She advises patients on proper removal of ticks, signs and symptoms of tick-borne disease, and for those who are actively sick, she can assist in finding an appropriate medical provider who is familiar with treating tick-borne diseases.
“Rebecca’s expert advice assists countless residents on the East End who suffer from Lyme disease and tick-borne illness. I am truly grateful for her service and commitment to the public health of our community,” commented Legislator Fleming.
