Legislator Muratore Recognizes Students, Principal at Our Savior New American School in Centereach

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Muratore recently attended a special awards program at Our Savior New American School in Centereach.

Last spring, five of Ms. Josette Leon’s 11th grade History Honors students participated in the New York State Student Research Award competition. The goal of their extensive research, which included a visit to the office of Brookhaven Town Historian Barbara Russell, was to learn about the Selden Telescope Hill Fire Tower, which is no longer in existence. The honor students created a website that provided historical information about the tower, some of which they shared at the ceremony.  After presenting the students with Certificates of Recognition, Legislator Muratore called School Principal Dolores Reade up to the podium to thank her for 25 years of service at Our Savior. He presented a special proclamation to commemorate the event.

“I was grateful to be invited by Ms. Leon and Pastor Stelzer to such a special program,” stated Muratore. “It was a pleasure recognizing these young men and women for their hard work and desire to learn the history of their community. Additionally, I thank Principal Dolores Reade for 25 years of dedication to the school and students. Her recognition is well deserved.”
