Huntington, NY –As the Senate gains momentum with the tax overhaul plan, local
groups from across Long Island gather in opposition to the projecteddevastating impacts on Long Island residents. With the loss of property tax
deductions, the Work Opportunity Credit that encourages the hiring of veterans, school supply deductions for teachers, student loan tuition deductions, grad
student tuition waiver deductions, moving expense deductions and an increase inhealth care premiums, removal of ACA mandate making healthcare unaffordable for
those with preexisting conditions, the plan will instantly have negativeconsequences to our local economy, public health and quality of life.
Suffolk County Legislator Dr. William Spencer stated, “Theproposed congressional tax plan will have a disproportionate effect on Long
Islanders. The proposed loss of state and local tax deductions and specificallyreduction of the mortgage tax deduction will place an unfair burden on our
middle class families. This is unacceptable.”
Action Together LongIsland (ATLI) leader Eve Krief M.D., Legislator William R. Spencer M.D. and
various community organizations will gather to speak out against thedetrimental provisions of the plan and join in singing tax themed holiday
carols.
