East Northport: On October 24, at the East Northport Public Library, Legislator Stephanie Bontempi’s (R-18th L.D.) office held a special informational meeting regarding down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers. Leading the presentation were representatives from the Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning, and Community Housing Innovation (CHI).
Essentially, two different opportunities were covered (one from Suffolk County, the other from CHI), both of which may be available to those who qualify. It is important to explore the programs closely to determine eligibility and to stay within any applicable deadlines. “Homeownership is a dream shared by many Americans, but in recent years it has been getting more out of reach,” said Bontempi. “When help is available, however limited it may be, governments and non-profits need to work together to get the word out. I encourage anyone aspiring to be a first-time homebuyer to look into these opportunities while they last!”
