On Monday, November 6, 2023, Legislator Leslie Kennedy attended a special meeting of Sachem Aftershock – the Sachem Central School District's Robotics Team – to assist in the honoring of their four advisors: Robert Wentzel, Andrew Cifuni, James Byrne, and James Tripi.
Specifically, these advisors were honored for their handling and assistance in implementing the Community First Project, a program designed to provide robotics parts and components to underprivileged school districts.
The student-inspired project has been thus far successful and has benefited tremendously from faculty involvement and coordination.
“It brings me great joy to witness the ingenuity of these students and the dedication of their advisors,” said Legislator Leslie Kennedy. “The story behind this project is that during competitions Sachem Aftershock students noticed the rather poor condition of some schools’ robots – some of which were constructed with wooden parts. With the knowledge they could do more, Sachem Aftershock began to raise funds and has even delivered parts to other schools.”
Sachem Aftershock maintains robust connections with the community and their ever-expanding alumni community.
