Amityville, NY – Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory was on hand to celebrate the renaming of East Gate, a street off of Great Neck Road in Copiague, as “Everett E. Newman III Memorial Way” in memory of a longtime Copiague resident in recognition of his years of selfless work on behalf of the Copiague community.
Everett E. Newman III, who died on Aug. 30, 2017 at the age of 71, was a man of integrity who gave himself fully to his family and his community. He served as a manager with the U.S. Post Office for most of his life and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Additionally, he was a 30-year member of the Copiague Board of Education, a longtime member and past president of the Copiague Kiwanis, leader of Boy Scout Troops 284 and 154, past president of the former Copiague Lions Club, a volunteer in the Religious Education program at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, and a coach for the Copiague Soccer League.
