HUNTINGTON, NY – Suffolk County Legislator Susan A. Berland (D-Dix Hills) 16th LD, is accepting nominations for the “Woman of Distinction” and “Senior Citizen of the Year” Awards from the 16th Legislative District.
The “Woman of Distinction” Award recognizes exceptional women whose voluntary work contributes to the advancement of women in Suffolk County. The nominee should be a woman who empowers and inspires women, exhibits leadership skills, fosters professional development and participates as a mentor and role model for young girls and/or women in Suffolk County. All nominations must include a biography of the nominee.“As a woman in government and a mother, I appreciate the positive impact that women have in our community,” stated Legislator Berland. “I look forward to receiving nominees of accomplished women who enhance the quality of life of residents of Suffolk County.” Nominations must be received no later than February 9, 2018.
The prestigious “Senior Citizen of the Year” Award recognizes an advocate, role model, leader or volunteer that has enhanced the lives of older residents in Suffolk County. The nominee must be at least 60 years old and not someone who has provided services to senior citizens through government employment. The award will be presented at the Senior Celebration Luncheon sponsored by the Suffolk County Office for the Aging and the Suffolk County Senior Citizens Advisory Board in May. “Our senior community is active and involved and contributes greatly to our quality of life,” Legislator Berland said. “I encourage my neighbors to nominate a senior with a dedicated commitment to our older neighbors so that they can receive the recognition they so richly deserve.” Please send your nominations to Legislator Berland’s office, with an explanation of why the nominee should receive this honor and contact information for the nominee.
