Hauppauge, N.Y. – Suffolk County Legislator Susan A. Berland, 16th L.D. (D- Huntington, Babylon and Islip) testified at a State Assembly hearing in opposition to the proposed federal National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Draft Proposed Program authorizing oil drilling on Long Island. “The importance of our coastlines to our tourism industry and our precious marine resources cannot be understated” stated Legislator Berland. “We need to do everything we can to oppose the authorization of offshore drilling on Long Island.”
Legislator Berland, a veteran legislator, has been deeply involved in environmental efforts for years as a Huntington Town Councilwoman. She is a strong advocate of open space, water quality and environmental issues; sponsoring events to clean beaches, maintain historical sites and plant greenery across the Town, in addition to passing legislation that regulated running bamboo and dark skies.
